How Dark and Darker wipes work
Dark and Darker is a first-person fantasy extraction dungeon crawler by IRONMACE. Players team up, loot the dungeon, fight monsters and other adventurers, and try to escape alive before the circle closes. Progress is seasonal: every few months the game is wiped and a new Early Access season begins.
A wipe in Dark and Darker resets player progression so everyone starts the new season on equal footing. Wipes usually land with a major patch that brings new content, balance changes or a new class. Since 2025 IRONMACE has followed a roughly three-month season cycle, and the servers normally go down for a few hours of maintenance on wipe day.

How to prepare for the next wipe
- Spend your gold before the wipe: experiment with builds, try new classes and take risky runs — it all resets anyway.
- Read the season patch notes so you know which classes and items were buffed or nerfed.
- Plan the first few hours: early quests and trader levels give the biggest head start.
- Expect long queues and some server instability for the first hours after the new season launches.

02What time does the Dark and Darker wipe happen?
IRONMACE usually starts wipe maintenance in the Korean morning, which is late evening or night in North America and early morning in Europe. The exact time is only announced shortly before the wipe, so check this page or the official Discord on wipe day.
03How often does Dark and Darker wipe?
Recent Early Access seasons have lasted around three months. Seasons 7 to 10 launched in September 2025, January 2026, April 2026 and July 2026.
04What gets reset in a Dark and Darker wipe?
A full wipe resets character levels, stash and equipped items, gold, quests and trader progress. Purchased cosmetics and your account remain. Semi-wipes can be more limited — always check the patch notes for that specific wipe.
05Is Dark and Darker free to play?
Yes. Dark and Darker became free to play when it launched on Steam and the Epic Games Store on June 7, 2024. The Epic version was later discontinued; the game remains available through Steam and IRONMACE's Blacksmith launcher. An optional Legendary Status purchase unlocks extra features.
06Do I lose my skins after a wipe?
No. Cosmetics bought with real money, such as skins and other shop items, are tied to your account and are not affected by seasonal wipes.
