How Path of Exile wipes work
Path of Exile is a free-to-play action RPG by Grinding Gear Games, released in 2013. Roughly every four months it launches a new expansion with a challenge league: a fresh economy where everyone starts new characters alongside new mechanics and balance changes.
Path of Exile does not delete characters. Each expansion launches a new challenge league — a separate economy where everyone creates new characters, with that league's mechanics, challenges and fresh trade market. Existing characters remain in their permanent parent league. When a temporary league ends, its characters and stashes migrate to Standard; Hardcore-league characters that die migrate to permanent Standard immediately. League lengths vary, and the recent schedule has not followed a strict three-month cadence.
What gets reset
- New league characters start at level 1
- The league economy, trade market and currency values
- League-specific mechanics and challenges
What you keep
- Old characters and items (moved to Standard when the league ends)
- Purchased stash tabs, cosmetics and supporter packs
- Challenge rewards already earned
- Your account and Standard league progress
How to prepare for the next wipe
- Pick a league starter build before launch day — the first days of a new economy are the most valuable.
- Read the patch notes the week before launch; balance changes often invalidate last league's meta.
- Expect login queues at launch. Download the patch as soon as it's available.
- Purchased stash tabs are available in every new league, so plan your layout in advance.

Path of Exile wipe FAQ
01When is the next Path of Exile league?
Path of Exile 3.30 has not received an official launch date. Grinding Gear Games has discussed changes planned for 3.30, while ExileCon on November 7–8, 2026 promises previously unannounced updates. Until GGG publishes a date and launch countdown, any exact November or December date is speculation.
02Does Path of Exile wipe characters?
No. When a league ends, its characters and items move to the permanent Standard league. New leagues simply start everyone at level 1 in a fresh economy.
03What time do Path of Exile leagues launch?
The four latest leagues launched at 19:00 or 20:00 UTC. Always use GGG's official launch countdown, because daylight saving time changes the displayed Pacific time.
04How long do Path of Exile leagues last?
There is no fixed duration. GGG has often targeted roughly four months, but recent leagues have varied substantially; Settlers of Kalguur, for example, remained the main league for more than ten months.
