How Path of Exile 2 wipes work
Path of Exile 2 is an action RPG by Grinding Gear Games, the sequel to Path of Exile. It entered Early Access on December 6, 2024 and runs in leagues: time-limited seasons where everyone starts new characters in a fresh economy alongside new content and balance changes.
Path of Exile 2 does not delete characters. Instead, each major update launches a new challenge league: a fresh economy where everyone starts at level 1. When a league ends, its characters and items move to a permanent league. Grinding Gear Games announced at Gamescom 2026 that version 1.0 launches on December 11, 2026 and that there will be no 0.6 league. At 1.0, Early Access characters are not wiped: they move to a separate "Early Access" league, but they don't carry into the 1.0 economy — so everyone who plays 1.0 starts fresh on the same day. The game also becomes free to play at 1.0.

How to prepare for the next wipe
- Decide on a league starter build before launch day — the first hours of a new economy are the most valuable.
- Read the patch notes the week before launch; balance changes often invalidate last league's meta.
- Expect login queues at launch. Patching early in the day helps.
- Make sure your stash tab layout is ready: purchased tabs are available in every new league.
